Split systems should be checked regularly, but the frequency of maintenance depends on the systems’ purpose and location:
We recommend maintenance to be performed at least once a year, if equipment is primarily used for cooling purposes. If equipment is used throughout the year (for heating purposes as well), we recommend a maintenance check before the start of each season. Along with the primary purpose of the equipment, other factors should also be considered, such as potential negative effects of the area where the equipment is installed. For example, equipment installed in urban areas and/or near large industrial complexes requires more frequent cleaning than equipment installed outside urban areas, or in areas with predominately single family houses.
In such cases, equipment is used throughout the year (heavier heat load due to lighting and other factors), and larger amounts of air impurities are present, which cause the filters to clog more frequently. More frequent maintenance is therefore recommended (two to four times a year).
Due to air impurities which are present in industrial complexes as a result of technological processes, cleaning has to be performed substantially more often than in cases described above. We recommend individual inspection of equipment used in each case, and subsequent evaluation of the required cleaning frequency.
However, one thing holds true for all the scenarios described above: a clean and well maintained air conditioner will be more energy efficient and will have a longer life span. Due to high pressures present in every air conditioner, equipment which is not regularly maintained is two to three times more likely to experience a complete compressor failure in comparison with well-maintained equipment.
